GM – Timur Gareev, rating 2780, is a chess Grandmaster from Uzbekistan, extremely funny, open and free with advice to the team members of The Chess Academy. Timur in a 10 person blind chess simul in Houston, defeated all of the Knights he faced. Timur was a part of the University of Texas at Brownsville’s Chess Team where he helped the University obtain its first National Championship. In 2011 he won the 20th Annual Chicago Open and the 11th Metropolitan Chess FIDE Invitational tournament, US Open, World Open, LA International in the year 2011, and recent Land of the Sky 2012. Met The Knights at The US Open in Houston and met up again in 2011 at The Texas K -12 and Collegiate at the Houston Hilton Hobby where he admittedly “crashed a wedding” the night before and was victorious the following day, ranked in the Top 100 in the world.
